Cats on Tuesday--Painted Anela

There has been an large earthquake swarm one island over from where I live--on the Big Island (Hawaii). Magma is on the move under the surface of Kilauea Volcano. The authorities have closed the roads going to the Volcano Park because of the danger.

The last big earthquake on the Big Island impacted us on our island on Maui with earthquake damage, so I'm praying the volcano settles down. As an act of propitiation to the Volcano Goddess of the Islands, Pele, I have painted Anela in volcano colors. Doesn't she look stunning?

I don't know how well cats serve as earthquake detectors--I've read that geese and snakes are. However, if I see Anela hightailing it out of here, I will be right behind her!

Cats and dogs do dedect earthquakes, that's for sure we once had one long time ago and not very strong but strong enough to damage houses and I remember that my cats really behaved strangly I only didn't know that it was for that because we never had an earthquake here !

Nyssa would love to be back in the action... last year her Geology class studied the volcano there... probably they wouldn't let them near it this year. Wonder if animals never exposed to earthquakes can tell when they are coming?

I have read most animals do detect quakes. Maybe there is some sounds we humans do not hear?

The photo is excellent - a volcano cat. That's great.

I hope the earthquakes quiet down and that no one is hurt! Anela, your painting looks lovely.

I think Anela will know. Keep a close eye on her. Hopefully Anela's new volcanic colors will help appease the Goddess! She is very regal and handsome like that by the way.

I think Pele would approve of Anela's colors. We have earthquakes here and I always watch Gretchen when she's behaving strangely.

May Anela's beautiful colors appease the Goddess, and may you stay safe!

This sounds scary. I hope everything goes okay and you escape the earthquakes.

Glad to see the earthquake report says no new activity.

We don't have earthquakes in New Jersey (at least nothing to speak of - I think there was one about 20 years ago but I didn't notice it). But I did have a cat who responded to distant thunderstorms. Well before the thunderstorm arrived he would position himself in the kitchen doorway and sit there stoically till it was over. If we ever saw Marmalade sitting in the doorway we knew a storm was on its way. Pretty smart, since I think that's what they tell you to do during an earthquake. Maybe in one of his previous lives he lived in an earthquake-prone area!

I'm sure Pele will love that picture of Anela in volcano colours, Kuanyin.

I dread earthquakes. When I lived in New Zealand, in the Bay of Plenty, the kids at school didn't have fire drill, they had earthquake drill because there were so many earthquakes.

They scare me silly..I've been in too many.
